The Leif Eiriksson Icelandic Club of Calgary
The Leif Eiriksson Icelandic Club of Calgary is a non-profit organization, founded in 1973, that promotes social and cultural activities for persons of Icelandic origin, interested friends, and family members.
WHAT WE DO IN THE COMMUNITY
Traditional Icelandic celebrations such as our Spring, Fall & Christmas dinners
Provide financial support to a number of Icelandic Canadian Service & Cultural Organizations including the Markerville Historical Society,
the Stephan G. Stephansson Society, the Logberg Heimskringla Icelandic community newspaper, the Snorri cultural exchange program,
and the Calgary Scandinavian Centre. We also donate funds & goods in support of local charities such as the Interfaith
Food Bank & Veterans Food Bank.
Seniors lunch open to all members and friends over 60
Our annual Markerville Festival family day celebration of Iceland's independence day (bus charter, supper, kids program)
free to all members & the public
An Icelandic film series featuring movies produced in Iceland in English
Our speakers series featuring presentations by distinguished speakers
Children's events are provided at various time throughout the year
A comprehensive Library containing videos and books about Iceland for all ages
Sponsor local young adults of Icelandic descent to an exchange program where they travel to Iceland for 40 days
Genealogy research support
Icelandic language classes
Sons of Fenrir viking battle reenactments
Bus trips to museum exhibits
