Markerville Picnic
ICELANDIC INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Saturday, June 15th
Markerville, Alberta
In 1944, the Republic of Iceland gained Independence from Denmark
and the Alberta Clubs will celebrate on June 15. Jon Sigurdsson's
birthday was June 17 and that is the date chosen by Iceland to
celebrate their independence.
Special events this year will also include the crowning
of the Fjallkona, Kathleen Raines who resides
near Airdrie but is a member of the Markerville Club.
The Ulfraendi Vikings, former Sons of Fenrir, will be back
again to re-enact life as it was 1000 years ago,
about the time that Iceland was being settled.
This is a rain or shine event
12:30 pm – Family Program in the Park (If it rains go to Fensala Hall)
3:00 pm - PROGRAM: Crowning of the Fjallkona
FOLLOWING THE PROGRAM. - POT LUCK SUPPER:
Guests are asked to bring a meat, salad or dessert dish.
Roast turkey and ham will be provided by the
Calgary and Edmonton Clubs
