Icelandic Roots comes to Banff
We have 19 Icelandic Roots Volunteers plus several spouses/family members attending the Banff - Calgary Convention, so we are bringing a big group of at least 21. I am still waiting to hear from several others. We are having an IR Volunteer Dinner Thursday from 5-7 pm and will come to the Meet and Greet after.
Friday
Celebrating With the Icelandic Roots Community Sunna Olafson Furstenau President and Founder at Icelandic Roots www.IcelandicRoots.com |
At the convention, you will have the opportunity to meet about 20 Icelandic Roots volunteers. The leader of the organization is Sunna. She grew up in the Icelandic settlement of northeast North Dakota. Her life work of preserving the Icelandic heritage, traditions, language, literature, and genealogy, and keeping connections strong with people of Icelandic ancestry is accomplished through the nonprofit, charitable organization of Icelandic Roots. She was on the INLNA Board from May 2010 - November 2019 and served as President from 2016-2018. In 2017, Sunna was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon for her work founding Icelandic Roots and volunteering with various other organizations.
Also presenting are four other IR Team Leaders. Together, they will showcase the various teams, community outreach, and unique features provided by IR. Cathy Josephson will join us from Vopnafjörður, Iceland. She recently received the Knight's Cross of the Icelandic Order of the Falcon and leads the Iceland Genealogists and the Member Services Teams. Doug Hanson will travel from Richmond, Virginia and he leads the Finance and Places Teams. Becky Byerly-Adams flies in from Seattle and she leads Samtal Hour, Book Club, the Fitness Challenge, the Newsletter, and the Writing Team. Jody Arman-Jones lives in Farmington, Minnesota, and leads the Public and Snorri Programs Outreach Teams. Come to this interesting session with dedicated volunteers as well as other knowledgeable IR team members. Learn about the amazing opportunities, projects, and events that are happening within the Icelandic Roots community and how you can be a part of it all.
